Distance Learning is when instruction is delivered at a distance because the student and instructor are separated by physical space.
- Synchronous Learning is when learning occurs while the students and instructor are together at the same time.
- Asynchronous Learning is when learning occurs while the students and instructor are not together at the same time.
- Traditional Courses are classes where the students and Instructor meet regularly in the classroom for synchronous learning. Some traditional courses are now adding components and resources from the web. This is considered a Web-Enhanced course.
- Hybrid Courses are distance education classes where some of the learning occurs asynchronously using the internet but most of the instruction occurs synchronously during regularly scheduled classroom meetings.
- Online Courses are distance education classes where most (or all) of the instruction is delivered at a distance using the internet for asynchronous instruction. Not often, but there may be occasions when certain online courses require students to attend some on-campus meetings. The dates and times for the on-campus meetings will be listed in the course schedule and/or syllabus.
